My internship with Anna Banana's start out as an an class assignment. I was tasked with developing a large marketing campaign report for a local business for a marketing communications class. I reached out to the owner and they agreed to share their needs and wants for their business. My final report consisted of four recommendations. My recommendations were to start a relationship with an on-campus organization to develop awareness through a pop-up shop.
After completing the assignment I asked the owner if I could become an intern to fulfill my marketing campaign. They agreed and I began working on finding an organization to develop a pop-up shop. I reached out to the president of Students Helping Honduras to pitch the idea of a collaboration and pop-up shop. They loved the idea and the pop-up shop was born.
We carefully selected the location and dates for the event. Donations by Anna Banana's were sorted and organized prior to the event to help customers shop easily. The event was held on the main lawn of our campus so students passing by between classes could take a moment to shop. Social media and digital flyers were used in the student union to promote the event.
Members of Students Helping Honduras informed customers of the collaboration between the two organizations. Coupons and stickers from Anna Banana's were given to each customer. The coupons were marked "SHH" to see if customers shopped later at Anna Banana's. The event was featured in the Appalachian student newspaper. We were able to keep clothes out of landfills and into people's closets all while supporting our local and global community.
